“Let us perfect the means, the end will take care of itself, for the world can be good and pure only if our lives are good and pure.” – Swami Vivekananda
Education is no longer just the knowledge of facts and figures today. It is infact, the resilience to cope with change, solve day-to-day problems and think positively. So, heeding to the call of the hour any school, as an agency that imparts education in a formal setup, needs to correctly focus on providing multifarious activities that act as a springboard for creative thinking, free expression and holistic development.
Today life’s challenges are much more complex in nature than they used to be few decades ago. The present generation is quite unlike what we used to be. So, need is to walk in pace with the transient time to combat ignorance at all levels, in all forms with fresh, relevant and ready solution. Need is to facilitate our children with such knowledge and learning situations that not only develop their inherent talents but also lead them to realize their potential and core competencies so that they are able to pursue a successful, satisfying, career and become responsible citizens and good human beings making themselves and the world around feel proud of their existence as true sons and daughters of God.
What we are doing at Nirmala Convent Sr. Sec. School, Kathgodam, is exactly the same as mentioned above, even more than that. Aware of the formative influence of ambiance on a child in his formative years, we consider education and learning as an ongoing process and strive hard to continue it beyond the classrooms.
We teach our students the reality of life and not just let them live in a fanciful world of their own. We have an innovative and ethical approach to teaching through various subjects. It’s a blend of firm belief in carrying forward the good tradition through soulful and value-based teaching-learning environment rising above any religion, caste or community and an alertness to meet the global standards. Our kind of education is a joyful and life enriching experience for the students. It has a touch of divine bliss.
Thus, Nirmala Convent Sr. Sec. School, Kathgodam, established and administered by the religious Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, bears a vision that aims at promoting the integral formation of students by a sound moral, intellectual, physical, emotional and social education in order to prepare employable world citizens capable of shouldering various responsibilities of life.
With an insight into the fact that the happiness of man/woman, as well as his/her dignity consists in his/her virtue the school has chosen to focus on the theme ‘Vital Virtues’ in session 2015-16. Jesus once said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” He further said: “Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in Heaven.” – Mathew 5:3-10 (Sermon on the Mount)
So, we, during this session propose to reinforce and practice the Seven Heavenly Virtues. They are –
- Chastity i.e. embracing of moral wholesomeness and achieving purity of thought
through education and betterment.
- Abstinence i.e. Constant mindfulness of others and one’s surroundings; practicing
Self-control and temperance.
- Liberality i.e. Generosity; Willingness to give; A nobility of thought and action
- Diligence i.e. a zealous and careful nature in one’s action and work; Decisive work
ethic; Budgeting and monitoring of one’s time and activities to guard against laziness.
- Patience i.e. Forbearance and endurance through moderation; Resolving conflicts
peacefully as opposed to resorting to violence. This is the ability to forgive, to show
- Kindness i.e. Charity, compassion, friendship and sympathy without prejudice and
for its own sake.
- Humility i.e. modest behavior, selflessness and the giving of respect; giving credit
where it is due; and not glorifying one’s own self.
The endeavor is to establish a better world of love, justice, peace, hope and harmony through education.
