Golden Jubilee Celebration of our sisters – Theophane,
Romualda, Perpetua, Tresa Simon & Rose Cherian
At Nirmala Convent, Kathgodam – 2nd April 2016
The Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, Nirmala Province, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of our Srs. Theophane, Romualda, Perpetua, Tresa Simon & Rose Cherian on Saturday, 2nd April, 2016 At Nirmala Convent, Kathgodam. The thanksgiving solemn Eucharist was at Little Flower Church Kathgodam at 11.00 a.m. officiated by His Lordship Most Rev. Ignatius D’Souza, Bishop of Bareilly and concelebrated by Most Rev. Antony Fernandes, Bishop emeritus Bareilly, Most Rev. Isidore Fernandes, Bishop emeritus, Allahabad, and eight priests from the Diocese of Bareilly . The theme for the Eucharist was- “From His Fullness We Have All Received, Grace upon Grace.” These words of St. John chapter 1. Verse 16 resonated in the hearts of everyone present amidst the jubilant chiming of the melodious Golden bells.
The joyful celebration of the Eucharist began congratulating Srs. Theophane, Romualda, Perpetua, Tresa Simon, and Rose Cherian for completing 50 grace filled years in the service of the Lord who called and strengthened them to be blazing flames in the Church, in the Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate and to the people around them. The theme was highlighted in the Mass introduction, stressing that receiving God’s grace day by day, one after the other, is the reason to see his glory. His glory is manifested in and through our jubilarians as they are shaped and molded in the divine grace corresponding to the bounteous graces received. “Grace upon grace” is the accumulated grace—one grace following upon another. Such grace is ours each day and it is unlimited and sufficient.
The Jubilarians filled with God’s graces came before the altar to glorify God, recalling cherished memories of 50 years spent in His service. The magnificent and bountiful goodness of the Almighty guided and encouraged them and they responded to that grace with total trust and confidence strengthening their yes by deepening the attitude of thanks unto him for the numerous graces drizzled down from the Divine.
In the flow of that transforming God experience they remained blissful. The Golden Jubilarians from Vimala Province, sisters – Rose Angela, Ancy Mathew, Ida, Canisia, and Bibiana too joined for the celebration.
After the word of God read from Sirach 50: 22 – 24, Ephesians 1: 3 – 14, Jn. 15:9 – 17, the jubilarians renewed their religious vows. There followed the homily by His Lordship Most Rev. Ignatius D’ Souza. He began the sermon capturing the attention of the congregation to the introductory part of the Apostolic Exhortation entitled Vita Consecrata promulgated by Saint John Paul II. He pointed out the fact that in every age there have been men and women, obedient to the Father’s call and to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, who have chosen a special way of following Christ in order to devote themselves to him with an undivided heart. Like the apostles, they too have left everything behind in order to be with Christ and to put themselves, as he did, at the service of God and their brothers and sisters.
He then said that our Golden Jubilarians who stand now before the altar too are such exemplary followers of Jesus who not only know about Jesus, but also know him and have been with him on the life journey. He elucidated to the gathering that the 50th anniversary of the religious life isn’t so much about oneself or one’s vocation or one’s call or one’s life of service. That is a part of it certainly, but not the main part. For this Golden Jubilee, one celebrates God, His call, His faithfulness, His mercy, which has been the anchor of one’s religious life, one’s magnet ever drawing one closer to God, one’s compass setting one’s life and all that goes into it in perspective. At this moment one can only pray in the silence of one’s soul, “To you, Lord, be the honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.” His Lordship concluded the homily affirming that one is chosen in Jesus before the foundation of the world. In other words, God sovereignly placed one in Jesus Christ. Thus, when Jesus came to the earth, we were in Him. When he died on the cross, we were in Him. When he rose from the dead, we were in Him.
After the homily the Eucharistic celebration continued. In culmination to the spiritual banquet, a vote of thanks was proposed by Rev. Sr. Theophane, one of the Golden Jubilarians. All then moved to Nirmala Convent hall for felicitating the Golden Jubilarians and then to the school auditorium for a short prayer. The entire process of the celebration came to its conclusion with a fellowship meal.
